The Powerball craze has hit unprecedented levels in the past few weeks as the jackpot has climbed way above the billion dollar mark. That’s A LOT of money and it has been an interesting experience seeing how people react to this growing jackpot. It’s made me reflect that I’m not the only one who has had their struggles with relating to money. As far as I can remember, my relationship with money has always been a little weird and uncomfortable. Growing up, money seemed to be a valuable commodity and now, it has become something that I feel pressured to manage well. I have been always blessed with financial abundance, but I don’t remember ever taking a moment to appreciate and to feel fulfilled with what I had.
Self-awareness is a big blessing as much it is a curse. There’s no denying that acting on internal awareness requires hard work. I find that once the awareness is developed around an energy that doesn't feel in alignment with my own truth, there is a strong urge to release it right away. Being aware of this uncomfortable feeling around money has now gotten me eager to get my act together around this. Therefore last week, I decided to work on this aspect of my life.
As you might've experienced, the universe always tries to queue us up with the right situations and right people at the right time. This week, a woman that I did an intuitive reading for was facing challenges around money as well. It was a group session and after finishing up the reading, she asked us a question – "I am not happy and feel unfulfilled with the amount of money I make. What can I do to have more money in my life?" The advice I gave her was similar to the advice I gave myself a few days prior to this reading - stop worrying about money!
Unconsciousness – For many of us, there’s an unconscious element that exists when it pertains to money. For example, this happens when we go out to the mall or even on vacation. As we easily swipe our credit cards, we don’t really account for how much we’re spending until the statement shows up at the end of the month when it’s too late. When I analyzed my energetic space around money, I found out that I handle finances with a level of unconsciousness in a slightly different way. Not when I spend money on myself, but mostly when I think about generously spending it on my family and friends. It is of highest priority for me to provide comfort to my loved ones and even express my love towards them through giving presents. I don't pay attention to affordability when I make these purchasing decisions. My unconsciousness is strong around money. Therefore, I need to let this energy go so that I am able to make these decisions without getting influenced by my own emotions.
Fears – When it comes to money, some individuals experience a high level of protectiveness around it. I realized that there is a ton of seriousness and restrictiveness around my money management. Every month, I use spreadsheets to keep a tab on my inflows and outflows. I actively plan my investments and debt payoffs well ahead of time. Well, all this is good, but seriousness around any aspect of life is detrimental. There is a self inflicted pressure on me to get things right because I don’t want to fail at managing my finances. Wait, doesn’t that sound like the fear of going broke? Yes, sadly it does. As you all know, we are energy beings who carry lightness and fluidity in our thoughts. Fears and seriousness take us away from our true nature and create unnecessary resistances, which create blocks in attracting financial abundance.
Shame and Guilt – This shows up a lot for a good number of people. We are conditioned to feel guilty and shameful if we are unable to contribute in our household income. In my case, money seems to guide my opinion of my own self esteem and self worth. My bi-weekly paycheck gives me the nice-feeling-but-fake validation that yeah, I am good enough. This shows that my real intent of earning money is not coming from a pure place, but rather a place of ego satisfaction. When my underlying intent is so corrupt, how can I ever expect the result to be soul gratifying?
Resistances – Last, but not the least, resistances to receiving and giving money play a significant factor for many as well. I feel a great degree of internal resistances in my subconscious in allowing more money in my life. Why would that be the case, you may ask? Well, I never had a good role model who had a lot of money and lived their life with the highest moral values. I tend to draw towards individuals who live a balanced life from physical and spiritual aspects. I’ve usually seen people losing their sense of morality when they start making more money. As a result, my own perceptions, or perhaps judgments, have created fears in me as I don’t want to fall in the money trap and lose my balance, which I tremendously value. I realize now that all these useless notions are foolishly taking up unwanted real estate in my mind.
If we reflect on the value of money in our lives, we could easily realize that we give it a lot of power, way more than necessary. The more we give away this power, the more it makes us feel like hostages and pressurizes us to do things that we don’t otherwise find joyful. Let’s take a moment to ask ourselves, why money is so important in our lives?
If we dig deeper, we could easily realize that money itself is not important to us. For the simple state of having a lot of money is not really exciting. What really holds importance to us are the joyful experiences that money is able to provide us. We can all dream of gaining a million dollars, but money alone is not fulfilling. The simple visual of our lockers full of a million dollars feels good, but not entirely satisfying. However, how we choose to spend this big amount of money could be of importance. It feels more joyful to dream about taking a 1 year long sabbatical from work, spending all this time at a nice beach resort in Hawaii, getting massages, enjoying authentic Hawaiian food, exploring the town, interacting with locals, hiking in the most beautiful nature, and participating in a variety of adventure sports every day.
You see, the idea of immersing ourselves in joyful experiences feels immensely gratifying. The moment we shift our attention from the accumulation of money to the joyful experiences that we want to attract in our lives, our resistances drop immediately. When we set the intention for attracting greater financial abundance, usually our mind fills up with doubts and uncertainties on how this can materialize. On the other hand, when we instead focus on joyful experiences that money can help us afford, we set the intention with thoughts that have least amount of resistances. Through the law of attraction, the universe listens very intently and helps in the manifestation of our desires when our internal resistances are low. Moreover, since by definition these experiences within our dreams are joyful, we feel very fulfilled when our dreams do come true. Therefore next time, when you think of attracting more money, shift your attention to defining joyful experiences instead.
In conclusion, my advice to my readee as well as to myself is to let go of all the internal blocks around money. Next time when you sit for meditation, visualize these energetic blocks leaving your space. Defining the desires based on experiences and setting the intention on a regular basis will be of tremendous value. As your internal resistances drop to a minimum, it will be easier to attract more financial abundance in life with ease and grace. Or of course the other option is to just feverishly pray and bless the Powerball ticket you may buy. :)
